Metallurgical industries, both ferrous (iron and steel) and non-ferrous (aluminium, copper, zinc, etc.), involve high-temperature processes such as smelting, refining, sintering, and casting. As per Schedule 3(a) of the EIA Notification, 2006, all new metallurgical projects and expansions must obtain prior Environmental Clearance (EC) to ensure environmental safeguards are integrated into project planning and execution.
